No, it is alive and well in millions of believers today! There will come a day when tongues cease (1 Corinthians 13:8), but as long as the church is on the Earth to occupy until He comes (Luke 19:13), it will continue to operate the way that God described it. If tongues were to cease, then all the other giftings must cease too – such as miracles, healings, prophecies, interpretation of tongues, discerning of spirits, words of knowledge, words of wisdom, and even faith (1 Corinthians 12:8, 28)! Tongues are the utterance of the Holy Ghost both then and now, and it would be a grievous mistake for men to attempt to overthrow the work of the Holy Spirit in His own church.
