Are Tongues Demonic

Certainly not! The scriptures always show tongues to be a good and edifying thing done by the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4-11, 1 Corinthians 12:7-10, 28, 1 Corinthians 14:4-5, 18, 21, 26, 39, Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 5:17-19, Jude 1:20). Mockers have always come along and tried to make the holy into unholy, and the pure into impure (Isaiah 5:20, Matthew 11:19, 23:37, Mark 3:22-23, Acts 2:13, Jude 1:17-19). There is no example in the scripture of tongues being in any way demonic or less than belonging to the holy conduct of the saints. People try to argue from anecdote and stories, but they depart from the revelation that God Himself gave of tongues by slandering and accusing other believers as they rail against tongues and the Holy Spirit Himself. The same religious mockers are here today – they think that the expression of tongues is the product of reproachful men. What all these men need to hear both then and now is this: we are not drunk or carried away with some excess or demonic power, but this is what was prophesied by Joel. We are in the last days, God has poured out His Spirit, and this is what it looks like (Acts 2:15-16). This is the heavenly ministry of our resurrected Savior, who is the One who baptizes in the Holy Ghost and power. This is the proof that He has received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit and poured out this that can be seen and heard (Acts 2:33), yet mistaken by the religious as excess and debauchery.
