Yes, tongues are the utterance of the Holy Ghost both then and now. Tongues were placed in the church by God, and men have no right to remove them (Acts 2:4, 1 Corinthians 12:10, 28, 14:26, Ephesians 5:18-20). They are as much a part of the church as pastors, teachers, governments, or any other thing that God has placed in the church (1 Corinthians 12:28). Its prominent position and priority in the church is witnessed by the fact that it was the first manifestation of the Spirit in the church, and that precedence may have set the order of how all church services started in the first century (Acts 2:4, 10:45-46). God’s church has continued even to today, and it operates in the same way as when it started.
